African Wildlife Safari
Africa is an addictive destination, as diverse as it is large and as awe inspiring as it is different! It is also a destination to which you can return again and again and have a completely different experience. But it is a huge continent – larger than the combination of the USA, China, India, Japan, Eastern Europe, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. So it is best approached with expert advice.
Our itineraries normally include one or more of the following destinations: Botswana, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe. Each country provides a unique outlook on the African way of life, topography and a different wildlife experience. You do need to recognise that an African safari is likely to cost significantly more than, for example, a tour of Europe for various reasons, including:
- wildlife safaris take place in remote areas requiring vast tracts of undeveloped land which must be maintained and the animals protected from hunters and poachers thus necessitating (sometimes) significant park fees
- lodge accommodation normally includes meals, game activities in specially modified vehicles with a well-educated guide plus, in many places, a tracker
- the preferable lodges are small and intimate accommodating less than 20 guests (so there are no economies of scale like big city hotels with 200+ rooms)
- supplies need to be transported across vast distances to remote corners.
However there are ways to reduce the overall cost of an African trip, for example by taking breaks from game viewing with visits to cities or other attractions.
