Ndutu Safari Lodge

Ndutu Safari Lodge is situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the southern Serengeti eco-system. The Lodge nestles unobtrusively under a canopy of giant acacias overlooking a soda lake, Lake Ndutu. The lodge offers a superb base in which to explore the range of habitats that lie within easy reach, this include swamps, woodlands, soda lakes and the world famous Serengeti short grass plains. Ndutu still has the informal, intimate feeling of the original bush camp, built by legendary hunter George Dove in the 60's. Now, comfortable cottages have replaced tents, but the main buildings place no barriers between the guests and nature.

Wildebeest come here during the rains, December through May. They calve on the plains in February, they gallop through the woodlands, they swim across the lake.   From June through November, the plains are dry and the great herds gone. This is the time when the resident animals converge around Ndutu's waterholes and marshes - elephants, giraffes, impalas, every kind of cat, a profusion of birds.

Ndutu Safari Lodge consists of 34 stone cottages that extend from the central, open-sided bar, lounge and dining room.

Each room has its own verandah that overlooks Lake Ndutu. All rooms have en-suite facilities. The cottages are made from local materials and offer comfortable, tasteful accommodation.

Destinations Africa Comment - Ten rooms have a double bed, and there are five triple rooms, one family room, which can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children. All other rooms have 2 single beds. All the rooms are single storey and are accessible with a wheel chair. They ask that guests refrain from using hairdryers and other items of a similar nature as they overload the generator.  The enthusiasm of the Dutch manager Marleen was infectious.  This is quite a basic lodge but it looks comfortable and is in a great location.
