Ruaha River Lodge

Located on the pictureus banks of the Ruaha River.
The lodge is constructed of local stone and thatch which has minimal impact on the environment  It consists of 20 rooms with either twin beds or a double bed. Additional beds can be added.

The ensuite bathroom has a shower, toilet and wash basin with solar-heated water.  The rooms are protected with mosquito gauze on the windows. Electricity is provided by a generator, which is switched on a couple of times each day.

It is rare to meet any other vehicles on game drives around Ruaha's extensive and road network. The guides are highly trained and English speaking and you may have the pleasure of spotting several rare species including Greater and Lesser Kudu, Roan and Sable antelopes.

Destinations Africa Comment – The solar heaters for the water are not efficient.  We found that one could only rely on hot water for a shower in the middle of the afternoon.  The electricity is switched on for very limited hours.  The accommodation is basic and the food on offer is poor and has to be transported from a remote kitchen.  It is not possible to get cereal for breakfast.  The location is very pleasant.  There are some tsetse flies in the park but generally they are concentrated in particular areas which can be avoided.  Up to 9 people can be seated in a vehicle which would be very uncomfortable for everyone, particularly those in the middle.
