Tarangire National Park

Established in 1970, it is the country’s 4th largest park (2600 kms) and on of the least visited park in Northern Tanzania.  It is 118 kms southwest of Arusha.  There are 9 vegetation zones which provide varied habitats to support the diversity of wildlife.  Tarangire is considered a bush park and is famous for its elephants, not only because it has the highest population anywhere in the country, but also because it is the only park where one can see large concentrations of elephant year round (during the dry season it is possible to see up to 500 elephants in a day).  The park is also great for bird watching, with 550 documented species.

June to September is the best time to visit the park as the animals go to the river for water.  The park is 45 minutes to Lake Manyara, 1 ½  hours to Ngorongoro Crater and 3 ½  hours to the Serengeti.
