Quilalea Island

Quilálea is a private and uninhabited tropical island of thirty-five hectares situated in the Quirimbas Archipelago. This malaria free haven has only nine en suite villas that are constructed with local rocks, furnished with locally made teak and mahogany furniture and roofed with traditional palm thatch.

Quilálea Island forms part of the Quilálea Marine Sanctuary, a 500,000-hectare area endorsed by the WWF. This sanctuary was the first protected area to be created in the Quirimbas Archipelago and acts as a nursery for nesting turtles, dugongs and humpback whales. A total of three hundred and seventy five species of fish has been identified in the sanctuary to date. Activities on Quilálea Island include diving, snorkelling, fly-fishing, surfcasting, sport fishing, canoeing, island exploration, sailing, swimming, bird watching, excursions to Ibo Island and cultural visits to the mainland.
