Benguerra Lodge
Along the Mozambique Channel lies tropical Ilha de Benguerra, part of the Bazaruto National Park, an island paradise situated within the renowned Bazaruto Archipelago.
Here too is the beautiful Benguerra Lodge, set in a natural acacia forest, where peace and tranquillity are the norm. At Benguerra lodge policies are intricately inter-related with the marine eco-system and the local population. While you may simply choose to recline within the shade of a beach umbrella, there are many wonderful activities to enjoy.
Benguerra Lodge exudes an East-African-cum-Arabic decor in line with the ancient tradition of the archipelago, once the playground of the Queen of Sheba. While it is an island lodge, care has been taken to maintain the feeling that one is nevertheless embarking upon an African marine safari.
The main lodge building comprising reception offices, lounge, dining room and patio area is flanked by eleven comfortable thatched chalets, two honeymoon suites and a private villa, all of which are no more than twenty metres from the beach. Meals are fresh from the sea, with delicacies such as crayfish, crab and calamari, all tantalisingly prepared, with lunches often being served in different settings.
A wide variety of activities are available, such as snorkelling, wind surfing, deep-sea fishing, saltwater fly-fishing, and excellent diving. Other options include a trip to Pansy Island; picnics on private islands; walks; open landrover rides; sunset cocktails on a traditional dhow and for the more adventurous a trip to the mainland where a visit to the local market, the old harbour and lunch are enjoyed.
