Samburu Lodge

Samburu National Reserve is situated in the Northern Frontier District of Kenya, about four hours north of Nairobi, within the lands of the colourful Samburu people.  This vast semi desert area with its spectacular scenery is host to many species of wildlife not to be found in other areas of Kenya.

Samburu Lodge lies within the Reserve on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, the main water source in the wild, arid countryside.  Along its banks, palms, figs and acacia trees attract abundant birdlife and offer shade to the herds on game coming down to drink.

Elephant stroll across the river, seemingly oblivious to the many large crocodiles that inhabit its depths!  The northern species of game such as Grevy zebra, graceful long-necked gerenuk, Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe and Somali ostrich inhabit the banks.

Samburu’s time honoured hospitality and service are enjoyed by the guests at the lodge, as is the mouth watering cuisine, as they relax in the large cantilevered viewing deck or by the sparkling blue pool.  All the comfortably furnished, ensuite rooms are river facing and spread out on either side of the main lodge buildings.  There is never a dull moment around the lodge.  The abundant resident birdlife fill the trees with their calls, bright blue and orange agama lizards skitter across the rocks and inquisitive ground squirrels frolic on the lawns.  At night crocodiles come up to feed on the banks of the river below the lodge and more often than not at least one magnificent leopard comes into the spreading acacia on the opposite bank.
