Kenya-GL-Serena Samburu

Serena Samburu

Situated across the river from the Samburu National Reserve, this lodge, built mainly of natural stone, is surrounded by tall acacia and palm trees and lush established gardens.  After travelling along dusty roads, the reception area with rock gardens and lily pond gives you the feeling of stepping into another world.  Symbols, implements and weapons of the Samburu people are used extensively in the décor of the building, bringing guests closer to the life of this land and its proud, nomadic people.

The dining area opens onto the terrace lounge with a sapphire blue pool overlooking the Uaso Nyiro River where several grassy game viewing areas descend down to the sandy riverbank.  There are comfortable armchairs at the lounge level, deck chairs and loungers around the pool and safari chairs scattered for game viewing along the lower terrace.  Elephants stroll along the riverbank and at nights leopards come to floodlit bait across the river.  Crocodiles come right up the bank to feed whilst marabou stork and wildcat watch for a chance to grab a share. The lodge accommodates up to one hundred and thirty guests in thatched cottages, each with two bedrooms and most with a river view. The rooms are brightly furnished with local fabrics and natural matting and have en suite bathrooms.

The Samburu area is known for its large elephant population and northern species of wildlife such as the reticulated giraffe, the graceful long necked gerenuk gazelle, Grevy zebra and Beisa oryx.
