Governors Camp

Governors Camp is the flagship of the Governors Family of Camps, being the first tented camp to be established in the Masai Mara National Reserve in 1972. It is built on the site of Teddy Roosevelt’s Mara camp and is one of the most famous camps in the area.

The Camp provides luxury and comfort while retaining the authentic flavour of safari camping. There is still excitement – wild animals around the camp, only canvas overhead – yet you can have a hot shower and iced drinks!  The excellent quality of food and service seem amazing in this bush setting miles from civilisation. There are four camps within the group, all sited amongst the trees along the banks of the Mara River.

The tents are cleverly placed along the river, amongst the trees.  All the tents are in the classic safari style, spacious and tasteful, with en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water, flush loos and bidets. Tall old trees, clipped green lawns and the quiet river give a wonderful feeling of tranquillity.
